Serial no. 38726, .38 caliber, 3 1/4-inch barrel. 5-shot cylinder. Nickel-plated finish. Left side of frame with appliqued silver escutcheon inscribed in script: To J.F. Brown/From Texas Jack./Jan. 1879. Case-hardened hammer. Spur trigger. Hard rubber grips. Sold together with Smith & Wesson factory letter stating revolver was shipped from factory on November 20, 1878, and delivered to M.W. Robinson, New York City, Smith & Wesson. Accompanying provenance shows a John Moore was a New York stage actor playing in the play `The Trapper`s Daughter` during the time this revolver was presented. Texas Jack was in New York for the opening of `The Trapper`s Daughter` where the presentation of this revolver was made. This is confirmed by accompanying photostatic copy of a New York theatrical announcement showing Texas Jack and John Brown at same venue. 7000 - 10000
