Series 1 Land Rover Barn Find. This is not your usual barn find landrover so please read full description. i have owned this since november 1985. during the first couple of years it was completely stripped down and every nut and bolt removed from the chassis. the chassis was then professionally repaired with it only requiring a small amount of welding to 2 outriggers as the rest was completely solid, it was then given 2 coats of red oxide paint and 2 coats of black gloss paint, the chassis is still 100% solid and although showing signs of being stood for a long time will not require and welding at all guaranteed. Both axles were then reconditioned with new bearings,seals and brake shoes and drums skimmed, the front axle had both ball joints rechromed although one now has a small amount of surface rust showing.The leaf springs are not correct for the vehicle and are heavy duty ones from a lwb model and make it sit too high so in my opinion will need replacing although at the time of fitting were a fully reconditioned set - now showing signs of again being stood for a long time.The gearbox was in good condition only needing attention to the hand brake on the rear of the gearbox before refitting to chassis.The engine was stripped and fully reconditioned, it was rebored with new pistons and rings,the crank was good with no signs of wear but was refitted with new big end, small end and main bearings, a reconditioned oil pump was fitted. the head was stripped and all valves reseated, the camshaft was also very good, a new gasket set was aquired and the engine reassembled. The carburettor was stripped and underwent a service with a rebuild kit. The bulkhead was also professionally rebuilt with only minor welding being required, this looks a lot worse than it actually is now showing signs of rust but it is only surface rust and will easily come off, this is also still 100% solid and will not require any further welding - guaranteed.The engine was started and ran for some time around a field running very nicely with good oil pressure as an additional oil gauge was fitted to check this. It was then parked up and pretty much left. All parts should be there to finish it off with everything being original with the exception of the leaf springs - to do anything else to one of these should just be illegal in my eyes.It would require stripping down again to do properly and then it would be quite an easy restoration for someone, it hasnt moved much at all in the past 25 years but all i had to do was blow up a spare tyre to pull it out the garage for photo's and to my surprise the engine will still turn over by hand, but i would recommend stripping again. During ownership this Landy has always been garaged, the only thing i dont have is a canvas roof for it, i have the original registration book in my name, also still have the last MOT from which ran out in 1985.it was registered in january 1956 and is an 86" wheelbase with original 2.0L petrol engine, it has taken me quite some time to come to a point where i am willing to sell this as i have obviously had this for a long time, i am not willing to give it away but i have set a very realistic reserve price but no, dont ask.
