Set of 3, rare original medallions from the Thomason Medallic Bible Series made in 1830. About 72 mm across, weigh 3.7 ounces each, good heavy medals with nice relief on the front. I believe the medal is copper. The set includes "Josephs Brethren Selling Him to the Ishmaelite Merchants." I think the inside circle depicts the brethen and merchant exchanging money for Joseph, with Joseph off to the left. The reverse side tells the story of the obverse. The second coin is "Absalom Slain by Joab in the Wood of Ephraim" with story on the reverse. The third coin is "Julius Caesar Murdered in the Senate House in Rome" and has the story on the reverse side as well. The set was produced in Birmingham, England by Sir Edward Thomason, who felt divinely inspired to 'promote the glory of God by impressing the Word of God upon gold, silver and other indestructible metals'." There were 60 medals originally and I think these are #16 (Joseph), #39 (Absalom) and #52 (Julius Caesar). All have the designer's name "Thomason D." around the outside edge of the obverse. Would be a fantastic to collect them and eventually get the entire set. Great Bible stories lovingly rendered by Thomason.
