WHAT A LOVELY ANTIQUE SET OF LARGE SERVING DISHES! EACH IS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY. And exceptionally big and heavy. Their potential uses are many but they were designed for serving the vegetables. They would certainly have once belonged to a grand house for so many to have been needed. They are numbered 1-4 on the rim of each. Here we have a quite exceptional and quite lovely set of 4 solid silver dishes of quite sensational gauge and weight.Hallmarks are somewhat rubbed but are legible on each. I particularly like their gadrooned border. Each is assayed in London and dated 1835 (year letter u) and has a maker's mark for WB-sought after maker William Bateman-his mark can be found in Jackson's pocket edition page 79.He was a very good maker and the best of the Batemans. This is a lovely late William IV lot and a must have. All are really delightful large pieces! Their diameter is 10.25 inches and the height is 1.5 inches. These lovely circular dishes are of exceptional quality and each is a most delightful piece of hefty table silver. Weight of actual silver combined is a staggering 3134 grams (100.77 troy ounces),each piece is made of very thick gauge silver throughout. Their condition is very good with only light wear commensurate with age and use.Each is engraved with a lovely animal head crest and always has been,definitely no erasures either. Antique serving dishes of this type are seldom seen nowadays and this is a cracking and important set. Please note that i have listed many other good items of both modern and antique silver,please do have a look. A truly beautiful and most wonderful lot. Would be ideal as a special present perhaps?
