FINE AND RARE SET OF FOUR MATCHING 1885 ENGLISH STERLING SILVER NEO-CLASSICAL FORM SALTS; RIBBON HANDLES; LUSTREOUS GOLD WASH; NEVER MONOGRAMMED; MAKER "H.P&H.", BIRMINGHAM, 1885; SHOWN WITH SIMILAR STERLING WARES, LISTED SHORTLY This is a fine set of four matching date marked 1885, English sterling silver salts. Beautifully crafted in the Neo-classical taste. It is difficult enough for collectors to find matching pairs. And, near impossible to acquire a matched set of four Victorian salts. As such, the set commands a considerable price premiun over single examples. Each masterfully executed in urn form. Thick, turned upper rim. Circular, two step pedestal base. Long, high arched and extended ribbon handles. Tapering to base. Much of the original gold, wash retained. Never monogrammed. Each salt is 3 3/4 inches handle to handle 2 tall, each weighs bit under 1 1/2 ounces. Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout.
