280038 Alexander McFarlane stoker 1 C L HMS Swiftsure All medals are clearly marked This man might have been on the sailing ship before it was converted to steam judging by the long service medal with Edward V11 head on it. It was the last HMS ship to raise sail. HMS Swiftsure, the lead ship of her class of pre-dreadnought battleships. She served in the Mediterranean in World War I"Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. October 1915. The forward guns of HMS Swiftsure as she lay in Suvla Bay off Anzac. The wave painted at the bows and the wash painted on the side are meant to deceive the enemy gunners. The Swiftsure's guns were 10-inch and 7.5-inch,
