Up for auction is a set of fifteen (15) unique and intricate antique forged steel blacksmith or jeweler's chasing stamp tools: Border patterns, a viking dragon ship with oars, clipper ship, six pointed star with an odd pattern inside, a bigger boat with portholes, a cannon, kukri knife blade, a barrel, hand closed in a fist and an old man's face amongst others in this lot! The masted ship has an anchor and 4920 stamped into the side. 's an example of what a couple of the stamps (just a random letter"M" and a castle, not any from the particular set in this auction) look like on wood, leather, copper, and brass. Excuse my amateurish stamping ability, I imagine a real smith or jewel crafter could do much better. Both stamps are about 1/4" wide: These Blacksmith's chasing tools are for punching designs into steel, iron, silver, or other metal (probably intended for softer material and pieces, watches and jewelry and such, considering the ornate detail of many of these pieces). They came from the estate of Leon Robbins, a famous Bath, Maine plane craftsman. (they might have been used for wood, too--he was a woodworker, but it's unknown whether or not he used any of these for anything or if they just sat in his basement).
