From a Nautical Estate, this is a COMPLETE vintage set of FORTY ORIGINAL SEWN Ship's Signal Flags in very nearly PERFECT CONDITION, still in their original duffle roll - Other than the few flags removed for the photographs, this SET HAS NEVER BEEN UNFURLED , with the flags even RETAINING THEIR CRISP FOLDS and fitting neatly into their dedicated slots. Consists of the regulation 40 flags- (Alphabet, numbers and "repeats".). Each is marked with the letter or number it represents on the upper corner, so it can be quickly located and put away shipshape. Unlike most modern signal flags- THIS SET IS ENTIRELY SEWN- ALL the sections were INDIVIDUALLY cut and sewn together -Truly a mind-boggling amount of talented handwork went into making these. Flags insert into individual slots on the duffle, which unrolls to 20" X 29" inches . They have been stored on shipboard, showing a few marks of shipboard storage to the outside of the duffle, with the flags remaining as CRISP as new, All have the TRADITIONAL toggles to link to loops on the adjoining flag. Each letter flag measures about 12" X 18". Number flags are mostly "streamers", measuring up to TWO FEET in length . Linking cord is a durable nylon woven braid. Flags themselves are constructed of nylon sections. Difficult to to find in this condition. Ship's flags frequently provided work for sailmakers in the "off season" when shipping and yachts were laid up for the winter, yet the amount of handwork that went into these IS TRULY MIND-BOGGLING - (I hope that they had a nice woodstove keeping the Loft warn, while they cut and sewed these.). READY TO "DRESS SHIP" or simply CONFOUND your neighbors in the marina. (Enough flags to fill an ENTIRE WALL at a Yacht Club or Nautical Den.)
