We are a family of Americans who've been living in France for 14 years and decided to share our " vie en rose " with you. I have always collected and sold antiques and started selling on eBay once we got a computer and the internet came to our ancient village in early 2003. It's been really rewarding to discover the world in this serendipitous way and find that people everyw are basically good and honest whether you're buying or selling. More than that we've made "amis" or friends that we cherish . It has been a "petit moment" as they say in France since green_stockings last sold on eBay....Hmmm since June of 2006 to be exact. Since then we moved. Further south under the sun, next to water & deeper into the France profound. It was a Herculean task moving the contents of 2 houses, and an antique shop with 6 kids in tow. Hyper Mega hard. T we were cast across the cool grass on our backs under the summer stars. The last of so many loads in the big moving van, various cars loaded, cats and dogs somew amongst it all at 5 minutes to midnight our family caravan pulled away. We were absolutely knackered but giddy with the excitement of a new adventure about to begin. T is something about new beginnings and adventure that thrill us. The feeling of being lost and finding your way and everything new and exciting in that newness! We are continuing the adventure and slowly unpacking and decorating or "personalizing" our new old house. The twisted iron above the huge front doors says 1831 but the house is much older than that. It's a fascinating house with plenty of character and places for all our activities but t is the work that must be done to restore the structure and make it functional in a 21 century sort of way. I just love leaving things in their original state whenever possible. We go to great lengths to keep any original bit however quirky...because it says alot about the people that lived in the house before us. My 2 older kids (making a total of 8 if you're counting) are always bugging me to throw it away and minimalize. So I try but I am hopelessly unable to do this. I love the cacophony of color and eclectic patterns. I love this crazy artistic way we express ourselves so much that I've decided WE are going to paint and collage the family history over the old wall paper starting as you open the front doors leading down the long hall and up the curling iron staircase that goes up 3 stories. Yeah that should be just about enough space for two adults and 8 assorted kids to paint their life adventures! I have oodles of art materials "paillets" or sequins and glitter paint for sparkling moments, pages of books, written words all manner of artwork & photos to alter. I suppose it will look like a Paris squat when it's finished. Or it will never be finished...we'll just paint and alter a bit each day as life progresses. A lock of hair, a lego, a theater ticket who knows?! As the unpacking seems to never end each day is like a rubic's cube. If you could bisect the house and place a piece of glass across the front we'd resemble an ant farm with people moving things back and forth and then moving some more. The antique shop is slowly taking form in the place of what was the main tabac of the town. You can recognize the tabacs in France by the obligatory 5 letters in a carrot. That is the red double diamond shaped sign that hangs out to guide you. A tabac is a place that sells magazines, International newspapers, candy, drinks, chips, souvenirs, sells fishing licences and various regulatory stamps as well as cigarettes, cigars and smoking accesories. Basically everyone in the past had reason to be in this house. So when we tell p...
