A truly stunning set of 8 No x Queen Elizabeth II Prooflike Crown / £5 Coins in an informative presentation pack Please note that I am on holiday for a week from Saturday 28th May and therefore only items paid for by 20.00hrs on Friday 27th can be posted before I go away, items paid for after that time will be in the post on Monday 6th June 1) 1953 Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Commemorative Crown Coin This Celebration Crown was struck to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, at Westminster Abbey on June 2nd 1953 on her accession to the throneElizabeth II became Queen on her father's death in 1952, there being no sons. A newly designed Crown coin was struck in 1953 to commemorate her Coronation.There was much excitement around the country with street parties and the like as this was the first opportunity since the war years for national celebration. It was also the first occasion when such an event was widely televised and millions huddled around televisions of the fortunate few who were able to afford such new technologyto witness the event live in front of their own eyes Obverse Designed by Gilbert Ledward shows the Queen on horseback facing left with a small crown over EIIR on either side.The design has some similarities to earlier coins showing Monarch on horseback in particular the Charles I Crown by Nicholas Briot which was the first machine made Silver Crown dating back to 1625 - 1649 Reverse Designed, by E G Fuller and Cecil Thomas, shows the four shields with in between , the emblems of England ( the Rose ) - Ireland ( The Shamrock ) - Wales ( the Leek ) and Scotland ( the Thistle ) 2) 1960 Queen Elizabeth II New York Exhibition Crown Coin In 1960 a Crown was struck for the British Exhibition in New York, USA.This 'Royal Mint' was set up at the Exhibition and these coins were being stamped out throughout,at the end of the exhibition bagloads of coins were shipped back to the UK and as there was only a relatively small number of these Crowns produced they have remained one of the rarer and therefore most sought after QEII CrownsDue to the somewhat unplanned nature of these Crowns being minted at the Exhibitionno special designs had been prepared and therefore it shares the same reverse design as the 1953 Crown but now with a portrait of the Queens Head on the obverse. Obverse Shows the Queens Head facing right and was designed by Mrs Mary Gillick, Reverse Designed by E G Fuller and Cecil Thomas, shows the four shields with in between , the emblems of England ( the Rose ) - Ireland ( The Shamrock ) - Wales ( the Leek ) and Scotland ( the Thistle ) 3) 1965 Sir Winston Churchill Commemorative Crown Coin Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill died at the age of 90 in January 1965 and a commemorative crown was issued in his honour and memory. This 1965 Coin was only the second English Crown to show the head of a Commoner, the first being that of Cromwell in 1658 Obverse The first (young) portrait of the Queen facing right, designed by Mary Gillick. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.The wedding had been held at Westminster Abbey on 20th November 1947. The cold weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the 2000 guests and the many thousands of onlookers who lined the streets of London to join the celebrations of this great day.
