Vintage Set of 3 Matching Vases by Finlandin Artist Tapio Wirkkala (1915 - 1985) Blown Glass in the "Celestial" Form in Neosin, Alexandrite ColourOnly Produced from 1966 - 1969All three pieces are signed (engraved) and numbered #3539 Small 4" X 3"; Medium 6 1/4" X 3 1/4"; and Large 7" X 4 1/4"What gives this glass its RARE, Alexandrite colour change is Neosin. Neosin is a derivative of the chemical agent Neodymium whose compounds were first commercially used as glass dyes in 1927. The colour of neodymium compounds, is often a reddish-purple but it changes to deep blue depending upon the type of lighting. This unique colour change insures that no two pieces will ever be identical. Vases are in excellent condition. No chips, scratches or damage. They are very clean, and have never been used as vases with standing water or flowers in them. Please see all photos below and email with any questions.
