T is no reserve on this item. Seth Thomas Helmsman Weather Barometer This is a Seth Thomas Helmsman type Ship's Weather Barometer on a wood and metal base. The wood appears to be mahogany. On the back is a sticker that says "CAT NO. 1552, NAME: Helmsman Barometer, MODEL NO. 1552-001. Seth Thomas Talley Industries, Division of General Time Corp., Norcross, GA 30092". On the bottom of the base t is a tag that says, "CAT.# 1802A (`602-001) HELMSMAN BASE" and a stamped number of 070684. The bottom of the base has a protective felt. The face of the barometer is very clear with "RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR." In diameter, from one tip of a wheel spoke to the tip of the opposite wheel spoke measures approximately 8 ½ inches across. The glass face measures approximately 4 inches in diameter. T is a small hole at the top of the back piece of brass which I assume is for wall mounting if you wish. I am not sure of the metal the helm is made of, but it appears to be some kind of brass. The front plate is very shiny was the wheel seems to be of a duller finish, a tarnished finish or a finish which has lost its luster. It does not have the shiny brass finish as does the rest of the barometer and may be from the manufacturer's process. We tried some Brasso on one small inconspicuous place, but it didn't seem to make any difference . T are no cracks or chips on this barometer and in addition the glass has no scratches.. This item comes from a smoke-free/pet-free environment. We took a lot of pictures for you to assess its quality.
