Seth Thomas #2 regulator, in oak , 1881, 36.5 " tall, (the larger case as in 1913 the cases got smaller to 34 inches). 15" wide . It is an 8 day weight driven clock. This clock case is in near perfect, and mint condition. The glasses are original, unblemished and wavy top and bottom glass. The hands minute, second and hour are are original and perfect. The 12" painted zinc dial has no crazing and is an excellent original dial. held on by 6 old small screws on the outside and 2 old small screws on the inside. The pendulum stick is perfect, original with no signs of repair or splits in any way, not even scratched up (rare to see an unmolested pendulum stick). the brass and lead pendulum bob has original shiny finish on it, with 2 small dings in the smooth brass front, not objectionable. The oak case has original perfect finish and has obviously been in a nonsmoking, protected envirnment , and it is wonderful. The ONLY blemishes on the case are at 2 oclock on the oak bezel a rub mark through the varnish only , (shows in pic?) and under the door at 5:00 position on case the veneer has been rubbed off by 125 years of the door opening and closing, putting friction pressure on this section of the oak wood case that first supports the door. This shows in the pics when door is open and does not show when door is closed. The brass bezel is also near perfect with one ding in the brass at 3:00 that only shows at very close inspection. The dial is supported to the case with the original oak dial support, (with matching finish !), this is frequently changed in these models. The inside of the case has a 100% complete and perfect label on the bottom, If this wasn't good enough check out the backboard, Not only is it perfect with original nails and light finish as the rest of the clock, but it has the ORIGINAL BACKBOARD PAPER with instuctions on how to regulate, OK honestly now , How many of these backboard labels for this common model has anyone seen? It is rare to see them 100% intact, but also with the 4 small rusty original staples holding it on. I would recommend to the next owner to cover and protect this extra bonus feature. The clock comes with an original seth thomas key and the lock works perfect as well. The perfect, recently cleaned shiney brass movement, is well working ,and is properly marked seth thomas , and has the numbers 10 and 44 stamped on the front plates as well. The weight is a correct seth thomas wt. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE MOVEMENT OF THIS CLOCK AND POSSIBLY DIAL ARE FROM A LATER SETH THOMAS #2 POST 1913. further research into tran du lay's seth thomas clock and movements book do show the trapazoidal movement coming in later seth thomas #2 clocks and the dials of the early examples, do appear to all have roman numbers, not arabic numbers. Thank you ebayers for bringing this to my attention, not only am I eager to represent the clock as honestly as possible, but I learned something myself. Obviously, if I was trying to decieve anyone, showing so many pictures of the movement and dial wouldn't be good! This is how the clock was sold and desribed to me by a major clock auction house! That does not change some things about the clock. the case is magnificent, and it currently runs well with a ST#2 movement and dial, AND A CORRECT MOVEMENT AND DIAL CAN EASILY BE LOCATED BY THE NEXT OWNER. the clock is still a much better the average example.
