This auction is for you longtime collectors of Primitive tools, as this chopper is a Superb example of early Americana and can only enhance any collection you already have. Large and Heavy weight Hammered wrought Iron chopper with an unusual Large Hickory Wood handle. Chopper is large and measures 8 inches top to bottom, 5 and 9/16" wide across Iron blade and 5 and 1/8" across Hickory handle. Anchor shaped blade has all the early earmarks of Early hand worked Iron and is over 1/4" thick thru the neck of blade and tapers down to a fairly sharp point. Most likely was used to chop grains. Hickory handle is quite thick and will take a large sized Hand to hold comfortably. Nice early double incised line decoration running thru center of handle. Early implements such as this chopper can be seen in pictures of American Chuckwagons and is considered quite Rare. Last picture provided displays chopper with a Large 17" wooden bowl I have listed separately, just to give you an idea of the size and heft of this chopper.
