A FINE AND RARE 18th CENTURY SEVRES CUP ("TASSE LITRON"), with Sevres under-glaze factory mark which was used prior to the French Revolution (the double "L" mark was used by Sevres only until 1793). CONDITION: When the cup is on display the gilding and painted decoration appear in very good condition on the body and handle (see photo #3), with minor wear to the gilding on the top and bottom edges (see the first three photos). The cup has several repairs: (1) t is a small and shallow repaired chip on the underside of the base (see photo #6), difficult to see and essentially invisible when the cup is on display; (2) t is a small repaired chip on the top rim, not obvious when the cup is displayed, but if the cup is turned around the repair is visible inside (see photo #7); (3) more significant is a repaired area on the rim of the opposite side of the cup which is not visible when the better side is displayed, but if the cup is turned around to the side with that repair, it is very visible because the repaired section of the rim was poorly repainted/regilded (see last photo) (though this repair is quite visible, it is not as disfiguring "in person" as it appears in the photo) (because the photo is so large the effect is exaggerated). Despite these imperfections, the cup displays very well.
