. Franz Seymour Remenick (1923-1999) Oil Painting Franz Seymour Remenick oil painting. Excellent condition mounted in glass covered frame from same era. Size image 11 1/2"x 7 1/2". Frame size 17"x 13 1/2"He studied at Temple University's Tyler School of Art before and after World War II - he served in the Army - and later at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, where he taught from 1977 until he retired in 1996.He also studied at the Academy des Beaux Arts in Paris and under Hans Hoffmann in New York, where most of Mr. Remenick's shows were held and his sales were made.He could be obsessive about his work, sometimes painting for 14 hours at a stretch in his Center City apartment while his young son played nearby."He and I had this little drill," his son, Richard, recalled. "He'd squeeze colors onto his palette, and I would name them. I was the only little kid who knew what burnt sienna was."Mr. Remenick came to national prominence in the 1950s, awarding him membership in that select club of artists who actually earn livings at their craft.His work was exhibited in Paris and Rome, and in this country outside Philadelphia at the Rhode Island School of Design - where it is part of the permanent collection - the Smithsonian Institute, and the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts, among other venues.He had one-man shows at the Davis and Peridot read more
