Shabby Barbola Oh my Goodness...................... Rare Find. Foxgloves, Delphiniums, and Sweet Peas. I am finally releasing my grip on this positively BEAUTIFUL firescreen. I am still looking over at this piece as I am typing. Am I really doing this? Well, on to the Screen. I purchased this at an antique shop many years ago. At the time I did not know for sure what it was made of. The next week I read an article in one of my magazines. According to this story, it is a French Firescreen with Barbola. This lady traveled to France quite often and had a very nice collection of these Barbola Firescreens. I believe she said hers were from the 20's-30's. She did have one very similar to my Flowers, but hers were in a Garden scene. So let me tell you something about mine. Very deep relief. I only see 2 places w the Barbola is missing. The Flowers are vibrant in color. Colors of French Blue, Pinks, Soft Purple and Yellow. Foilage is what I call Jadite Green. Very Pretty. The Screen measures: 19"w. x 27.75"h. Floral Arrangement: 13.25"w. x 17"h. (incl. container) Screen is 1/2" thick. Feet are 5/8" thick. T is natural wear to Screen, but this only adds to the Shabby Elegant Charm. The right foot of the Screen has cracked at one time, before I purchased it. It is stable and holds up very well. Just wanted to mention this. read more
