London: printed for George Kearsley, 1806; first edition as such, the frontispiece portrait is dated May 1806. 14 volumes, complete. "Cabinet" size 16mo, 6-1/4" x 4"; various paginations. Bound in full "Russian" diced calfskin, with faded gilt-tooled spines. Blue marbled endpapers; outer edges of textblocks speckled. With 74 finely engraved illustrations throughout the texts. Included are Rowe's Life of Shakespeare, Shakespeare's Will, Samuel Johnson's Preface, Glossary and Annotations. we have Tempest, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Merry Wives of Windsor, 12th Night, Measure for Measure, Midsummer-Night's Dream, Love's Labors Lost, Merchant of Venice, Much Ado Over Nothing, As Your Like It, All's Well that Ends Well, Taming o/t Shrew, Winter's tale, Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, King John, Richard II & III, Henry IV, V, VI & VIII, Troilus & Cressida, Timon of Athens, Titus, Pericles, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra, Cymbeline, King Lear, Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, and Othello. CONDITION is obviously compromised: 2 spines missing, several are loosely attached, chips out of others; some front boards unattached but all covers present. On the plus side, bindings are still firm, with no loose pages or signatures; contents are complete for each volume. SOLD AS READING COPIES ONLY, AND FOR THE PLATES. SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS.
