This reliquary crucifix and several others in our possession have been consigned to us for auction by one of the convents we work with, and all come from the donated estate of Ignacio Calderon de Salas. Ignacio considered himself Catholic, but he was also a well respected healer in the Andean region of South America . Ignacio was devoted to Saint Martin of Porres, and had all his bronze “healing” crosses touched to the Skull of the 17 th century Dominican Saint. Ignacio would tell the Sisters that it was the intercession of Saint Martin who cured the people that came to him; not he. The cross you are bidding on is 4.5 inches long, and it is made of bronze, with a weight of 68 grams. The reliquary compartment opens side-ways, and stays closed by means of a fastener on the back-base of the bale.
