CHOICE XF 1892-O SILVER DOLLAR TOUGH DATE IN THE MORGAN SERIES ! Here's a circulated 1892-O Morgan with nice eye appeal. All my listings provide the views and the information you need about a coin...the details, the flaws, the good points and so on. You get a good look at each of my Morgans - so you know exactly what you are bidding on or buying - and can therefore make an informed decision on whether the coin fits your collecting needs. The coin shows even circulation; with bold hairlines.The fields are outstanding as are the rims (note the nick on the reverse, tiny but mentioned for the sake of accuracy). It has an attractive look and a silvery gray obverse. It has two value added features: 1. the reverse shows some nice rim tone; toning in Morgans is a function of the 10% silver content and it boosts the value of any silver dollar. This one probably spent decades in an album to achieve the coloration on the reverse. 1. it has an original surface (never cleaned or polished) and that's a difficult find in this tougher date. Most would grade this coin XF. This is a difficult date for Morgan collectors as the majority were not only circulated but also weakly struck, with flat surfaces. You'll find it difficult and also expensive to source a high grade coin in this date for your Morgan collection. They are disappearing at a fast rate too and in a handful of years, this date is likely to join the ranks of the key dates in the series. Great time to scoop up a quality specimen like this. Silver is set for another big year in 2011 and there are lots of people realizing that the government is going to print away and spend until the dollar falls far below current levels. It's the only way they can manage the massive debt...monetize it away. A few brief words of wisdom for all the many new Morgan collectors: 1. get a good look at any coin you're considering placing a bid on; pass on any item you are suspicious of (such as a Morgan shipped from China; that's the source of most counterfeits). 2. avoid buying a Morgan in a holder that isn't graded by a top service; otherwise you won't be able to sell it one day. Stick with PCGS or NGC; anyone else on the holder will create a problem when the day comes to sell your Morgan. 3. don't overpay for shipping; in fact get it sent free where possible and all other things are equal; you'll wind up with more coins in your collection. 4. never polish your coins; don't clean them or alter the surface; treat every coin with respect and careful handling. 5. Don't waste your effort on copy coins or replicas; collecting fakes is a waste of time and money. Finally, accumulate all the Morgans your coin budget allows. Over the coming years, we're going to see silver soar in value. It's already up more than 30% this year but that's just the beginning. The day will come when silver is so high and silver dollars are in such demand that they are cost prohibitive (which is the time to sound the alarm and do some selling) but until then add to your Morgan holdings while you can still do so affordably .
