From Estate in New England: Vintage & gorgeous, Sheaffers Pen & Pencil Set from the early 1930s era, in eye-catching black & red pearl "Radite" finish with full gold trim. Pen measures approx. 5 3/8" OAL when closed, or about 6 1/8" posted for use. The matching Pencil measures 4 3/4" OAL, and both instruments have early style, gold pocket clips marked: "SheafferS" (note large "S" on end) with gold trim bands, plus pencil tip & fill lever.(See Photos) The gorgeous Radite bodies scintilate beautifully in sunlight. The pen cap is of screw-on type which opens at center joint below gold band. The Pen has a factory gold nib marked: "SheafferS" ... "3" ... "Made In U.S.A.". The Pencil also sports a matching gold guard for pencil lead extension/retraction. Both of these writing instruments appear to be in very good overall condition still. T are NO cracks, dings, dents, chips, chews, or other unsightly "problems" visible. The Pen body is clearly marked on side with: "W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co." ... "Fort Madison, Iowa U.S.A." ... "Patented In U.S.A." ..."350" ... while the Pencil body is marked: "SheafferS" ... "Made In U.S.A." ...Pat'd In U.S.A. ... "250". Recently purchased at Estate, this vintage & completely original Sheaffer Set is offered exactly as found. They have not yetbeen polished, restored, or serviced, so what you see is what you get. We leave restoration decisions to the buyer, of course. Body of the Pen has a fill lever on the side that does not fully lift up, so we assume that the ink bladder has hardened and needs replacement. Pencil currently has no lead in it, and though the lower body turns properly at center joint, we do not have the expertise, nor have we attempted, to re-fill this pencil ... though our guess is that the fill mechanism needs only normal maintenence and a new lead at this point. Dipped into ink, this Sheaffer Pen indeed writes very smoothly still, with the nib appearing to be of "fine" width. These show the usual insignificant scratches & nicks to exterior from honest use, though really only visible when carefully inspected under a lens ... but that's about it! Never really common, these gorgeous, early Sheaffers Pen & Pencil Sets were very well constructed and none-the-less quite successful in their day. The style of lettering, patent notices, and Radite bodies would seem to indicate a manufacturing date sometime in early 1930s era ... though of course, your guess is probably as good as ours t! Any way you look at it, this is a gorgeous Radite Pen & Pencil Set in near factory original condition. Missing one of these classic Sheaffer Sets from your private collection or vintage display case? Well look no further 'cause is a really classic & beautiful Pen & Pencil Set, still in superb original condition, for the astute collector!
