This is a beautiful miniature hand thrown Shearwater Pottery vase that is decorated in a blue green glaze. We believe that this vase was made in circa 1940. It has an impressed crescent shaped mark that reads shearwater. This is a beautifully glazed, hand thrown miniature vase that stands a mere 3" tall , 2" in diameter at its widest point and 1" in diameter at the top opening. The Shearwater studio pottery vase is in excellent condition, No post production damage. T is a glaze flaw on the bottom rim. That is the only natural flaw on the beautiful piece of southeastern pottery from the Gulf Coast. Recently most of the pottery structures and their museum were destroyed during the Katrina hurricane. The pottery is more scarce now than ever. The pottery was never mass produced, so all pieces have become more valued. collectors must recreate the losses to the family pottery and musuem.
