Sheffield Sterling Silver Figural Hen Tea Strainer Wood Handle. Great vintage silver chicken shaped tea strainer with a nice old dark wood handle. Nicely done hen or chicken has a gold type mesh screen. Bottom of silver piece its marked PAT APPLIED FOR SHEFFIELD then three small shield like marks which I can't quite discern almost looks like a "P" "&" "S" almost heart like bordering around letters - slight indent at top and slightly narrowed at bottom. Nice condition although dirty when found and still needs some cleaning. Don't see any damage or signs of excessive use as the silver inside although dirty doesn't look worn away and the mesh is in very good condition. Silver hen figure measures approx 3" long by 1 ¼" tall and from w the silver first projects from the hen and attaches including the wood handle measures approx 4 ¼". Well done piece with beak open being w tea pours out. Old looking item kind of looks Victorian era. Sorry can't get better picture of the mark will keep trying. **Have been asked if it is marked sterling which i have not seen but the marks look more like the one's listed under the sterling British Hallmarks then the silver plate but it is hard to tell as very small and old. Will try and find out for sure and notate accordingly. Thanks. Any questions or if want additional pictures feel free to email me.
