This clock has an adamantine finish, a process developed and patented by Seth Thomas to simulate marble and other fine finishes, thereby allowing them to make a lower cost clock to compete with the expensive marble clocks being imported from France at that time. It consists of a thin layer of celluloid laminated to a wood backing. It is an extremely hard and durable finish, which gave rise to the name adamantine, one of the definitions of which is having a diamond like hardness and luster. This clock has a simulated rosewood finish that has been restored to pristine condition, as has the movement. Everything is original, except for the dial which has been replaced with an exact duplicate. It is to be wound weekly and strikes the hour and half hour with a Cathedral bell sound. This is a lovely piece that will enhance any decor.
