Vintage SHELLEY Fine Bone China GAINSBOROUGH cup and saucer with a gorgeous pink and blue floral design -- in very nearly mint condition. What a lovely set! :-) The pattern number on the base of the cup appears to read "2245", which is "Native Rose". This is described in Shelley Tea Ware Patterns by Sheryl Burdess as a design of Australian flowers. However, since she has no picture of Native Rose I can't be certain. If one of you knowledgeable Shelley collectors has more info on this particular floral pattern, please let me know. Thanks! The cup is 2-3/4" tall and 4" across the open top, while the saucer is 5-3/4" across. The Gainsborough shape features a cup with a smooth-edged foot, an elegantly curved gold handle, and subtly notched gold edges to the cup and saucer. Pics 2 and 3 show the sophisticated curves of this beautiful cup; pics 1 and 4 show the different floral designs decorating the cup's interior, which match the 2 designs on the saucer shown in pics 5 and 6. Both pieces are marked with the green "Fine Bone China Shelley England" backstamp (1940-1966) and have the Shelley "ring". Aside from very minor wear to the underside of the handle and 2 miniscule firing specks on the well of the saucer (see magnified pic 8), this set looks terrific. The gleaming gold edges and lovely floral designs are remarkably fresh and bright. A fabulous Gainsborough floral duo for your Shelley collection! I'm always happy to combine your multiple purchases to save on shipping costs.
