QUINCY CA - 71 12 MAY 1944 to 31 JULY 1944 These Ship's Log pages were copied from the Originals at the National Archives From the collection of a highly decorated, Boston area, WW2 Veteran who had ties to USS Quincy CA-39 (sank in 1942) and USS Quincy CA - 71. Covers the period of the General Dwight D. Eisenhower inspection of the ship (see photos of this event that we are offering on different auction) and the Invasion of Normandy. Reading the Log give you insight as to just how stern Captain E.M. Senn was. The Quincy served in the European and Pacific fronts and was the ship chosen to transport FDR to Yalta. She was the third ship to carry the name. Quincy was authorized on 17 June 1940; laid down by the Bethlehem Steel Company , Shipbuilding Division, Quincy, Massachusetts as St. Paul on 9 October 1941; renamed Quincy on 16 October 1942 to perpetuate that name after destruction of the second Quincy at the Battle of Savo Island on 9 August 1942.
