Up for bids is this original 'SHIPWRIGHT'S CAULKING HAMMER or MALLET'. No maker stamp that I can find, but well-made - obviously a commercially manufactured tool. Wood appears to be maple with iron rings. Measures approx. 16" by 16". T is a full-length crack running along the upper portion of the head - see photos. Rings would presumably keep the crack from being an issue for a user, but I've never used one of these so can't say for sure. Would think that the rings and good handle might be useful as replacement parts for a another mallet. Regardless, as-is, would look very nice on the wall of a shipwright's shop, seafood restaurant, or any decor with a nautical theme....
