Feel free to email if you have any questions regarding our decision. This listing is for an exquisite antique biscuit jar that features a pair of delightful birds and cherry or prunus blossoms. Reasonable offers will be accepted on all of our BIN listings. I am favoring attribution of this piece to Mt. Washington or Thomas Webb. My camera flash engaged in the first (gallery) photo. If the glass looks slightly different in the shot, that would be why. This is a fabulous biscuit jar, but I want to delve into the few issues it has before I start gushing over it. As you can see, someone re-attached the fitter ring off-center. It looks to me as though this was attached with the white plaster - which is recommended for these old pieces. If that's the case, I believe you can soak it in warm water, loosen the ring and re-attach it. I'm not brave enough to attempt it. If I were going to keep it, my fix would be to have my silversmith remove the handle attachment altogether. Then it wouldn't matter. Also, the lid is damaged. This may be the original, but I would look for a new lid or have a silversmith fill this one in and restore the finish. My best guess is that a figural turtle or something similar was once t and broke off. I haven't tried to polish the ring or the lid. What you see is how it looks. The handle does not sit in the upright position by itself. I tried really hard to show you good closeups of the glass. You're going to see a white line near the base in front. Also, t are some black marks across the body which I believe were made by the handle. These usually come off with a bon ami paste cleaning. NOTE: A nearly identical Mt. Washington biscuit jar sold on eBay on March 18th. If you want to see that one, the item number is: 230448158088. T are no chips or cracks. This is decadent satin glass inside and out. The exterior coloring is what collectors today refer to as peachblow. The tint begins at the base as a soft pink, and deepens as it reaches the rim into a magnificent cranberry peach or wild rose color. The inside is opal white, and do note that this top-shelf glass allows you to see the outside design from the inside of the jar. The touch of this glass is so soft, and the body will ring beautifully when tapped with your fingertips. Do note also the mold style and size signature on the bottom of the jar. That adds tremendous value to your acquisition. The last stamped Mt. Washington biscuit jar I owned had this exact biscuit mold number and ink color. I'm also aware that Webb used a duplicate system. Overall this biscuit stands 7" high to the top of the lid. The most bulbous part of the body measures approximately 5-1/4" diameter.Even with the noted issues, this is a scarce and collectible biscuit jar. If the fitter ring and lid are repaired, this set can be marketed for a minimum of twice what it's listed for With the superb raised enamel blossoms and delightful birds, the decoration is so charming that this antique biscuit can't help but the the star of your collection! *** Your business is very much appreciated.
