Offered is a stunning 840 silver jewery box. A kind soul who is of Iranian descent told me that the mark on the left is arabic symbols for 84, 84 representing 840/1000 silver which is not quite sterling and is comperable to the Scandinavian 830. The mark on the right is the maker's symbols which are in Farsi, the Iranian language. The marks are on the inside bottom and the photo of the marks is greatly enlarged, the larger of the 2 is really 3mm wide If anybody happens to translate these, please email me and I will post for all to see. It measures 6½" long (165 mm), 3¼" wide (63 mm), a bit over an inch tall (270 mm) and weighs 11.85 ounces (335 grams). I am offering this hard to find piece of Iranian silversmith's art at an honest opening bid with no reserve. This box has a beautifull done design incorporating peacocks, other birds, arbesques and an exploision of flowers. T is a gold colored crown in the center but I do not know if it is gold, gold wash or vermieled silver. The design covers the top whilst all 4 sides have a floral pattern visible on the photo of the hinge.The hinge has a small bit of curve to it as seen in the enlarged photo, t are some light scuffs on the bottom consistant with careful use and t is a small bit of the sharp metal rod inside it exposed at one end (about 1 mm). I have not polished it because some collectore appreciate the original patina to be left on silver pieces. To polish or not is up to the new owner. T are no dents, dings, cracks or repairs and this lovely box comes from a non-smoking household.
