goldenzone A beautiful original watercolor painting by the American artist Amelia Montague Watson (1856 - 1934). Signed Amelia M. Watson in the lower right corner. This watercolor depicts a stately home with pillars, climbing ivy, daffodils in the foreground, flowering bush or tree at the left and view of a mountain in the background. It appears that this painting is in the original mat and frame. There are some foxing spots on the mat; we could see no foxing on the painting. Watson was born in 1856. She studied under the tonalist painter Dwight William Tryon. A self-supporting artist by age 23 she garnered critical acclaim by the 1890's. Watson maintained studios and homes in Tryon, North Carolina, Connecticut, Martha's Vineyard and was an illustrator for several books. Her works were exhibited a the Boston Art Club, Art Institute of Chicago, the New York Watercolor Club and American Watercolor Society. Painting measures 9 7/8" x 14 1/4".
