British Tall Case Grandfather, Signed, Maddocks Frodsham, c. 1840s. This Massive case is pushing 8 feet tall and over 2 feet wide with gorgeous, rich wood inlays of burl and light oak with Mahogany background. The flat top design is highlighted with scrolls capped with the original brass turrets and three brass finials and flaned by very unusual fluted colums. Case stands on a stout lower base that may have been re-inforced years ago with the bottom trim piece. All wood does have the same patina so it certainly may be original as well - hard to say for certain. Massive Brass 8-day, two-weight driven movement chimes loudly and clearly on the hour on a heavy bell. Second hand operates with the beat of the pendulum, while the calendar/date hand is functional. Case does show some wear near the bottom, and some decay along the bottom back side has been stabilized and re-inforced so as to assure decades of additional life. As with most clocks of this age, some Minor veneer loss is present in very small pieces and a crack is in the lower panel - another common feature due to the age shrinkage of these thin panels. The dial is wonderful: an Original Painted dial, signed with maker's name, with two painted long tailed and pretty birds. Very minor paint loss and very fine condition. Original 8-day brass movement, lock hardware (needs adjusted with key), weights and case. Pendulumand and top finials are replacements. The clock has been serviced for years of enjoyment. SPECIFICS Height/Width/Depth (inches): 91, 26, 10 1/2 Case Condition: Very Fine. This is truly in wonderful shape and a gem for collection. About us: This is our hobby business. Our passion for antique clocks seems to always result in more clocks than we can display and enjoy in our home, so we periodically sell pieces that we have painstakingly restored, serviced and ran for weeks, months or years before our latest trades. All of our pieces are hence running and will run for years to come if properly set-up and operated. We are not just another buy-sell mover of merchandise that provides no added value. Trained in Germany by a clocksmith during the cold war and skilled at restorations of all types, we don't restore unless the piece is totally unsigthly or marginalized, then we do only what is necessary to bring it back to an "Authentic Condition". With our extensive library of antique clock references combined with those of the NAWCC (membership periodically since 1985) we would never present a marriage clock without stating so, and only do this when we have received one in this condition and lack the parts to make it a proper marriage. We do not attempt to describe every minute flaw as this is left to the photographs. If you have questions, ask before you bid as we don't refund unless we have inadvertently made a gross oversight or misrepresentation. Unfortunately, many unscrupulous people deal via the internet; hence, we are forced to set this policy. Payment must be received within 5 days after auction closing or we report a "no-pay" and relist the item. Purchase from us with confidence. We not only warrant that the clocks have been serviced and tested, but we also have years and quantities of shipping experience for the most fragile of pieces. Pre-holiday shoppers. Pay before 15 December and we will ensure that you...
