2 covers commemorating the first crossings of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans by balloon, 1978 and 1981, respectively. The "Double Eagle V" departed Nagashima, Japan on 11/9/81 and landed in 11/12/81 in Covelo, CA. The "Double Eagle II" departed Presque Isle, Maine, on 8/12/78 and landed in Miserey, France 5 days later. Both flights were piloted by Ben Abruzzo and Larry Newman. Limited edition covers of 1000 each, and comes in a vinyl presentation binder. The Atlantic cover is numbered 589/1000, and the Pacific cover is numbered 46/1000. >>> Both covers were carried on board the flights, autographed by all participants aboard, and postmarked in the respective takeoff and landing locations. In addition, pieces of the actual balloon fabric from each flight are mounted on a card within the display.
