This auction is for an interesting JAPANESE MEIJI period SUMIDA GAWA TEAPOT made in the form of faces. The teapot features 4 faces on the sides with the spout being the nose of one face, like an elephant trunk. The lid is the 5th face with the nose as the knob. The teapot is very well made, interesting and funny. It is signed on the bottom, but I am unable to make it out. The teapot is 4 1/4" tall, 5" long measured across the spout, and 4 1/4" wide. Condition is very good, no chips, cracks. The bamboo handle is broken on one end, but could be easily repaired. It really is eye-catching, but due to the handle, I am putting a very low reserve and opening bid. Satisfaction guaranteed. Thanks for looking, and good luck.
An astute ebayer has informed me this teapot is BANKO WARE. Many thanks!
