AMERICAN BRILLIANT PERIOD CUT GLASS Signed Libbey Rare "Bishop's Hat" ABP Cut Glass Bowl This elegant bowl is cut on a rare and highly collectible "Bishop's Hat" blank. It has a large overlap rim and when turned over, looks like a Bishop's hat. This piece has a very clear Libbey signature. The cut pattern consists of 8 thick cross bars radiating from the center with thick diamond shaped bars at their ends. Inside the diamonds are fans. Outside of the diamonds are crosscut diamond. Surronding the center are finely cut 20 point hobstars with clear button centers. And in the center are overlapping squares with strawberry diamond cutting. The cuttings on the rim are composed of engraved flowers and leaves, with a laurel leaf border. T are 4 beautifully reflective step rings inside the overlap rim. I have included a photo of this exact bowl as illustrated on page 84 of J. Michael Pearson's "Encyclopedia of American Cut and Engraved Glass - Vol. II". This piece measures approximately 9 1/4" in diameter and is 3 1/4" deep. The condition of this piece is very good. The rolled rim has no chips or flakes. T are minor scratches on the inside surface that can only be seen with close inspection. The blank is clear and bright. Black-light tests correctly for ABP. "Bishop's Hats" are very hard to find and are even more desireable with the Libbey signature. The thick cross bars and rings on this piece give a mirror-like reflection, providing a brilliant elegance only seen on high quality pieces. This piece would make a excellent addition to your collection and would certain be worthy of the advanced collector as well. The Libbey Glass Company of Toledo, Ohio, was one of the foremost producers of rich cut glass during the Brilliant period. It was noted for the brilliance of its glass, the high quality of its cutting, and the variety of its patterns. It was also a supplier of fine blanks to other cutting firms. In 1893, Libbey built a complete glass factory on the grounds of the Chicago World's Fair which proved to be one of the Exposition's most popular attractions. The Louisiana Purchase Centennial Exposition in 1904 also provided a worldwide showcase of Libbey's Rich Cut Glass. Guaranteed as described. 100% Positive Feedback Seller.
