ITEM DESCRIPTION --
c1950s Signed OIL on Canvas PAINTING
"Night Watch"

We are delighted to have been able to obtain several oil paintings that are the last of a series of paintings from the estate of the artist who painted them. They were painted by F. Cameron Michel, a French-American of enormous talent who lived for many years in a beautiful sprawling home on Long Island's "gold coast". Michel was a trained artist who also worked as a draftsman -- so his strong abilities for composition and detail was phenomenal. Michel worked and painted all over the world and his subject matter was as varied as genre portraits, coastline landscapes, quaint English villages, Orientalist genres. His styles varied from cubism ... to realism ... to impressionism. Michel was exhibited at the prestigious Lynn Kottler Galleries, as part of a 3 man show, in 1968. This exhibit received quite a bit of publicity -- in fact, we've obtained copies of some of the articles about this show (shown in the last photos at the left). In fact, THE PAINTING IN THIS LISTING, "Night Watch", was part of this exhibit and was favorably reviewed on "The American Review" (of art) in 1968.
This painting is a brilliantly detailed and very dark portrait called "Night Watch". It depicts a man in near darkness ... only half of his face can be seen. He is an older man, with a craggy face that's full of character and he is smoking a cigarette. This painting is dark enough that it was difficult to photograph - we've tried to digitally lighten it without losing the integrity of the colors in the picture. This is an absolutely brilliant portrait and it is sure to dominate its surroundings and would be an outstanding addition to any decor. It's nicely framed in quality gilt wood gallery frame.

Please any of the photos to examine items in detail .

Age (ca.) c1968 - this picture was exhibited in 1968 and reviewed in print. Dimensions It measures 25" X 31" framed Condition Good estate condition. No damage on the canvas or on the frame. No repairs. All our items are used or antique and, as such, have the normal amount of wear and tear that's commensurate with their age. Provenance This comes from the estate of the artist. Details on this brilliant artist is above.

Please scroll down for more photos and them.
