Let me start this description by stating that "I only know about Netsuke from what I have read on eBay and various web sites. As you the collector well know Netsuke are very hard to describe as to the origins and artists. I know that most Netsuke will not be signed and that having a signature does not increase the value. Unless of course, the signature is of a recognized and known artist that is respected for their work. This piece is signed by the artist and I have seen this signature on a number of pieces sold on eBay over the past couple of years. Prices of this artists work have varied dramatically. All of the Netsuke was purchased at an auction of a well known professor in Bloomington Indiana and collector for many years of objects from all over the world, all of which were artifacts of museum quality. I purchased these Netsuke not so much for re-sale but because I found them to be so original, unique and made with such delicate carving. This was over two years ago and at this time I need the cash more then the objects. This item is very finely carved and unique as it has eyes that pop out when the Netsuke is tilted forward and side back in when tilted back. T are know cracks or chips and overall this is in excellent condition. I was told at the time that all of the pieces were around 100 years old and probably older. Signed read more
