Vintage to Antique (Est. 1960s) Old Pawn Sterling Silver and Green Turquoise Watch Cuff With Heavy Stamping! Natural, Moss Green Stones! Backstory: The 1960s is a conservative guess because we do not know when Navajo watch cuffs began being made and we would rather underestimate age than overestimate it, but this seems to be an early one! It has more simple, elegant lines than is often seen on watch cuffs--more like a traditional bracelet. Let's get the disclaimer out of the way right off the bat. This is an old watch cuff, handmade in what certainly appears to be the Navajo style, with age, materials, and techniques to a roughly mid-20th Century time frame. Unless the original tags and paperwork are still attached to a piece of "Old Pawn, however, it has not necessarily actually ever been pawned. This has become a general term that roughly characterizes older pieces, which admittedly drives specialty dealers up a wall. Also, without that paperwork, the ge of any piece of jewelry can be approximated, but it is always just a reasonably educated guess and the exact year is always arguable. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, no seller can claim a piece of jewelry is Native American made unless it is signed by a recognized artist of a recognized tribe. We have not positively identified WB, so please use you own judgement and do some research to avoid the (many) fakes out there. Ebay has some excellent user guides. Ask us if you have any further questions. We will answer to the best of our ability. We believe the most appreciative buyer is someone who is well-informed about what we are selling. Size: This cuff is 5 and 1/8th inches around the inside, with a 1 and 3/8th gap for wrist insertion. It is just over 7/8th inches high and is approximately 1/8th inch thick along the rimmed edges. The outer watch guards are 1 and 1/2 inches apart. The area for the watch face is approx. 7/8th by 5/8th inches. Stones: There are 2 very interesting, mellow, moss-green Turquoise stones, one on either side of the watch clamps. They shade slightly, with some darker green matrix, but are primarily clear. They are approximately 1/2 inch by 3/8th inch ovals, but vary slightly, as individual stones will. One is slightly darker green than the other and more slightly nugget-shaped as well. We wish we could be more certain about the turquoise variety on these handsome stones! They are natural in cut, stability, and color. Other Details: The cuff is clearly marked with a joined WB, without the 925 or Sterling stamp that would mark it as a more recent piece, but the maker's mark suggests the transition period of the 1960s when Native American silversmiths were beginning to identify their work. There are heavy, hand stamped sun rays on each side and along the outer guards. The cuff has thick rims on the upper and lower sides of the band. As explained below, it does test as 9.25 Sterling. Weighs in at a hefty 60.98 Grams! This is a beautiful find in wonderful condition! Way too much quality antique and vintage jewelry has been going into the melting pots in recent years. By definition, this is not going to expand the availability of good pieces. This will only gain in monetary value over the years!
