Up for auction is this Original Window Card for the 1926 Silent Film âeoeThe Ace of Cadsâe Starring Adolphe Menjou, Printed by âeoeMorgan Litho Co., Clevelandâe (Ohio). This is a very rare find, and a wonderfully designed lithograph, featuring the great Adolphe Menjou, in top hat and cane. I am not an expert on old movie posters, and though I spent several hours trying to research this item on the Internet, I found only general references to movie collectors and dealers websites, and though some were informative, I could not find another example of this poster. This poster was âeoeleasedâe to the exhibitor, whose name âeoeOrchard City Theatre, Campbelâe (which is actually the town of âeoeCampbellâe, California) is stamped on the top area of the item. These posters were intended to have the top portion blank, so that the theaters could put their name/dates and viewing times on the window card, and actually post them in other areas of town, if they wanted. The Orchard City Theatre was in operation for some 27 years, in Campbell. I did find some information about the âeoeFamous Players âe" Lasky Corp.âe, which is also interesting. Jesse L. Lasky got together with his brother-in-law Samuel Goldwyn, and also Mr. Cecil B. DeMille, to shoot the first feature film in Hollywood.
