FOR SALE A SILK SCARF COMMEMORATING 1925 DERBY WON BY MANNA A TRIPLE CROW WINNER GOOD CONDITION SOME TARES FADED COLORS BUT FOR A NINETY YEAR OLD PIECE OF SILK CONDITION IS GOOD IN ORIGINAL OAK FRAME 39" X 35.5" AND SCARF IS 34 3/4" X 31 3/4" A 1925 commemorative scarf of English horse derby in original oak frame. The scarf reads: Manna by Phalaris Waffles, Winner of the Derby trained by F. Darling 1925, Ridden by S. Donahue, the property of Mr. H E Morriss" in the center and is surrounded by all the names of the winners of the Derby since 1780 ( inscribed at the bottom of the scarf ( see detail photo). A " the Derby " to be The Epsom Derby in Epsom Downs. Original oak frame. A great equestrian decoration.Manna, described by the Breeders’ Review as “a superb creature” with whom it was “impossible to find fault”, [1 ] was a bay horse bred in Ireland by James J. Maher at his Confey Stud in County Dublin . As a yearling he was sent to the sales at Doncaster , where he was sold for 6,300 gns to the trainer Fred Darling acting on behalf of the Shanghai -based bullion broker Henry E. Morriss. Darling had been instructed by a telegram from Morriss to buy the best yearling in the sale.
