This is a lovely little item for the specialist bookmark collector - or for the collector of items relating to the International Exhibition which was held in 1886 at the Meadows in Edinburgh. The little book mark is made of silk and is in very nice condition with no rips or tears and the colour are all nice and fresh. It was made in Coventry - the centre of manufacture for these Victorian bookmarks, and was produced as a souvenir for visitors to the Edinburgh Exhibition. The image on the bookmark is very delicate in detail - and has at the top in bright red and emerald green the words: City of Edinburgh 1886. Below is an image of the old Netherbow Port - which was interestingly pulled down at the end of the 18th century, but was one of the old historic building which were reconstructed at the Exhibition for the display "Old Edinburgh". It also shows actors dressed up in front of the reconstruction dressed as the Old Town Guard. Below, is another delicate depiction of the Crest of Edinburgh - with the words below PEACE HATH HER VICTORIES NOT LESS RENOWNED THAN WAR - which probably refers to Queen Victoria. Below is another image of the site of the Exhibition on the Meadows in Edinburgh, with Arthur's Seat in the distance, and at the front the pavilions giving entrance of the display area - located near to Tollcrooss And below
