This auction is for a beautiful Silver Proof Coin and Medal set issued by the USSR in 1991 commemorating the 30th anniversary of the First Man in Space. The coin and medal are both protected in plastic cases, and are housed in a maroon velvet, hinged box. The set comes with two certificates of authenticity, one for the coin and one for the medal. The coin is 3 rouble, is proof quality, .900 silver and contains 31.1 grams of silver. Its diameter is 39 mm. The medal is minted from the metal of a Soviet space craft actually flown into space. It is officially issued by the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the main Soviet Space center located near Leninsk and launching site of the world’s first manned orbital flight. It was issued April 12, 1991, the exact 30th anniversary of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin’s flight aboard Vostok 1.This is a wonderful and unique coin and medal set that would make a fine addition to your collection.
