This is a Centennial medal dated 1876 that I am selling for a friend. Neither of us know anything about it so I will just describe what I see. It appears to be tarnished silver. It is encased in what looks like a little brown leather book that is lined with satin and a deep purple velvet. Book a little less than 2.5" square. One of the covers is off and has been held together with a rubber band. There is faint script writing in gold gilt (I think) on the inside of front cover. I can see the date of June 10th 1874; the rest is unclear. The coin has probably never been out of the box. One side of it is a woman with a sword reaching up to the sun. She is wearing a long dress. Around the perimeter of the medal it says: These United Colonies Are, And Of Right Ought To Be, Free And Independent States. (this side is dated 1776) The other side says: In The Commemoration of the Hundredth Anniversary of American Independence. Dated 1876. Around the perimeter of this side it says: By Authority of The Congress of the United States. The outside rim of the medal is smooth. I don't know how to grade items such as this but looks fine to me. Diameter right between 1.25" and 1.5"Nice piece of American History.Pet and smoke friendly here.Shipping includes insurance. If overestimated, difference always refunded.NO OVERSEAS SHIPPING ON THIS.
