4 Silver Oriental Metal Arts - Chinese Zodiac Calender Animals These are plaques made of some sort of silver metal and each overall measuring 14.5cm x 4.5cm. They bear no hallmarks so i do not believe they are silver. Each side is decorated with a scene depicting three animals from the chinese zodiac calender and the reverse bears a two character chinese signature. When placed together these plaques look as though they could form some kind of screen. The Shengxi�o (Chinese: ??), better known in English as the Chinese Zodiac, is a scheme that relates each year to an animal and its reputed attributes, according to a 12-year cycle. It has wide currency in several East Asian countries such as Korea and Japan.
