This is a very unusual silver bowl that appears to be from Thailand with a band of embossed reposed shields with figures of Thai stylized BuddhaÃ,Â's. The bottom of the bowl is engraved with floral designs. Engraved below the Buddha shields is the inscription "To Elizabeth Hamilton Lyon From Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Graham Bell Feb. 9, 1922". Research shows that Ms. Hamilton Lyon was the daughter of Edmund Lyon, a noted philanthropist who did extensive work with the deaf in New York State. Through this work he became close friends with Alexander Graham Bell. SIZE: 8-1/4" dia x 4-3/4" t.
