This soup ladle was made in Dublin in 1771 by William French. It weighs approximately 4 oz (by my kitchen scales) and is 14.25 inches long. The handle is 'hook-ended' which is only found in Ireland in the mid-18th century. The 'hook-end' was probably for hanging up in the kitchen or to prevent the ladle from sliding into the soup tureen. There are no repairs or dents and it has a fine original owner's family crest with ducal coronet.
