Simplified Munster Irish Gaelic FICHE DUAN Scarce 1919 Description: 17th to 20th century poems and songs selected by the inventor of 'Simplified Irish'. Foreword in English. There are two side-by-side Gaelic texts, the first in Muskerry Munster dialect, Gaelic lettering with archaic Rs and Ss, two accents and pre-standard spelling, the second in Roman lettering with one accent. The simplified Irish never caught on but undoubtedly makes reading the language easier. Scarce and collectable. This is fragile and in poor condition, lacking spine and rear cover, loose and with old adhesive tape (see scan); there are several stamps of an Irish Franciscan library as well as one from the Irish College in Louvain, Belgium, along with some penned library numbers to the cover; all pages browned with chipped edges.
