Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques!
This auction is for a rare pair of matching wine or water goblets. They were made circa 1880 by the Simpson, Hall, Miller and Company of Wallingford, Connecticut. Based on their condition, I would say that they've had a restoration in the past 50 years or so. You'll have to look at the pictures closely, but both goblets show some scratching & wear. Also, the inside of the goblets show tiny little pit marks close to the top. As bad as that all sounds, I think you'll also see that this is a stunning pair. The central theme features a pair of heraldic griffins. On one side of the goblets, the griffins flank a shell pattern. The reverse side features a blank area that would serve as a cartouche for your engraved initials, if you desired. This pair looks to have never been engraved, as I see no signs of a removal. T are no large dents, and the goblets do sit level on a flat surface. They would work beautifully either with a tilting or standing pitcher. Overall the goblets stand approximately 6-1/2" tall. The pedestal feet and top rims both measure 2-7/8" diameter. The trademark is stamped on the undersides of each goblets, but is very faint from the restoration. It reads, "Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company, Wallingford, Conn., Triple Plate". Simpson, Hall, Miller and Company opened for business in 1866 in Wallingford, Connecticut. Due to their attention to expert craftsmanship and quality materials, they became one of the renowned silver manufacturers in the Country. In 1898 they were purchased by the newly-formed International Silver Company, and their Wallingford plant became the new sterling silver center for International. This is an exquisite set to add to your antiques collection. Our no reserve auction gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy this pair, so don't let this opportunity get away!
