A vintage evening bow tie for formal occasions. In poor but wearable condition. Made of Marcella - this is the classic "golf-ball" or pique, texture - but I think it is silk, or a silk mixture, rather than the usual cotton. The label says: ARMY & NAVY STORES LTD. BOMBAY & CALCUTTA This dates the tie neatly to between 1934 (when the Army & Navy Co-operative Society Ltd became the Army & Navy Stores Ltd), and 1948, when the Calcutta store closed. This is a formal single-size bow tie, to fit collar size 15 1/2 inches. The size of the finished bow is 4" (10 cm) long by 2 1/2" (6.5 cm) tall. Size This bow tie will fit collar size 15 1/2 inches ONLY. It is NOT adjustable. Condition: This bow tie is in poor but wearable condition. It is noticeably worn, particularly the ends of the neckband, by the wing breaks. This is probably due to being worn by a gentleman who would have been better advised to wear a size 16 tie.
