Base Type - Flawless hydrophane crystal. Some matrix.

Color Play : 5/5 bright broad flash in hues of violet, red, pink, yellow, & green.

I photograph every opal dry so as to give the clearest idea possible of the gem being sold. Because these gems are hydrophane their appearance can be greatly enhanced when they are wet, giving an illusion of the true nature of the stone. None of my photographs are altered or edited in photo editing program.

Hydrophane: Ethiopian Welo opals are known for this very special quality. These gems with gain and loose water according to their environment. When put in water many of these opals will turn a beautiful crystal clear. When removed they will dry, returning to their original state. Every opal is unique, some are more hydrophane than others. Also, there are some non-hydrophane crystal opals from Welo, but these are relatively rare. In certain humid places an opal will gain and loose water throughout the day

Ethiopian Welo opals are some of the finest in the world. Known for their brightness, large flashes, honeycomb webbing and a variety of both color and base tones. Unlike the old mine Shewa opals this new deposit is completely stable, and perfect for faceting. Since the Welo opals were only discovered in 2008 much of the world have yet to hear of this fantastic material, making these the perfect investment gem. PLEASE NOTE: Occationally cracks will apear in transit due to changes in climate of postal manhandling. Please inform me if these happens to your gem and I will give a full refund.
