I got this colorful old classic piece near Hot Springs, South Dakota along with a bunch of other stuff. This is the kind of sheath that was used by most natives for every-day use because it was so very sturdy. Then someone painted it and made it PRETTY TOO! WOW! The outside is laced together with home-tanned buckskin over red wool. The designs include mountains and squares that represent family. The colors are very nice and in pretty good condition. The lacing on the left side of the knife case ends in a long fringe that adds a touch of flare to the whole thing. It measures 10 inches from the top opening to the bottom point on the right side with the fringes adding another 7 inches or so. It is 3 1/2 inches across the top opening. It came with a carbon steel knife with the a stamp on the handle that reads G217. The knife measures10 1/2 inches long and averages 1 inch wide.
